Our first extract sauce and it’s a doozie. After many long hours and batches of hot sauce that were absolutely amazing but didn’t make the cut for us to put our name on, we arrived at our much-anticipated original recipe hot sauce with Ghost Peppers and Pepper Extract. Of course, there’s our Cayenne and Habanero Hot Sauces that are always fan favorites, but we’re expanding the horizons of the Peppers of Key West line of hot sauces with unique and original recipes like Goin Bananas, Rum Raisin, and now The Ghost.

We named this sauce after the notorious pirate lore prevalent in and around Key West.

Black Caesar was a notorious West African pirate during the early 18th century, known for his association with Blackbeard and his legendary exploits in the Florida Keys. Black Caesar, believed to have been born in West Africa and was originally a tribal chieftain. He was captured by slave traders and lured onto a ship under false pretenses, where he and his warriors were promised treasures. However, they were betrayed and sold into slavery.

After a shipwreck caused by a hurricane, Black Caesar managed to escape captivity. He began his career in piracy, often using deception to rob ships that came to their aid posing as shipwrecked sailors. He became known for his cunning and strength, quickly rising to notoriety in the Caribbean and the Florida Keys, where he operated for nearly a decade.

Black Caesar eventually joined the crew of the infamous pirate Blackbeard (Edward Teach) aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge. He served as a lieutenant and was present during Blackbeard’s final battle against Lieutenant Robert Maynard in 1718. Following Blackbeard’s death, Black Caesar was captured by colonial authorities and was executed by hanging on the island of Key West later that year.

The life of Black Caesar is shrouded in legend, with many tales exaggerating his exploits and character.
