Indigenous to the Caribbean, Scotch Bonnet peppers have the same heat rating as their cousin, the Habanero pepper. However, the Habanero is less fruity and flavorful, and that's why the Scotch Bonnet has found its way into so many Caribbean dishes. Some people think that Habaneros are spicier than Scotches, but it's just not true; in fact, it's the bolder, richer flavor of the Scotches that may seem to mask some of the heat.
