Hot Sauce

Hot sauces are different things to different people. Generally, a hot sauce is one that contains a hot pepper ingredient or even a combination of hot pepper ingredients. Some people consider sauces with just a little bit of red pepper a hot sauce and others don't consider it a hot sauce until their tongue is numbed by pure habanero pepper extract.

The good news is that Peppers of Key West carries sauces that fit into everyone's definition of what a hot sauce is. Our most mild hot sauces have levels of heat that almost anyone can enjoy. In fact, we call them "sweet and tangy." Our hottest hot sauces are so hot that we require you sign a waiver to sell them to you. They are some of the hottest substances known to man. In between, we have hot sauces that run the spectrum of heat.

Hot Sauce Heat Scale

At Peppers of Key West, we personally rate each hot sauce with a number between 0 and 10. Hot Sauces with a rating of 0 are the sweet and tangy ones. Hot sauces with higher ratings become more and more hot until "weapons grade hot sauce" status is reached at number 10. Hot sauces with a heat rating below 4 are generally well tolerated by people without a lot of exposure to hot sauces. Hot Sauces with a rating of 5 seem to be the threshold for the uninitiated where they begin to question the quality of their decisions in tasting. Hot sauces rated above 5 get really hot, really quickly. That said, even if you are not accustomed to really hot hot sauces, you should try an extreme heat sauce at least once in your life. Who knows, you may find you can handle more than you thought and even really like the hottest hot sauces.

Don't worry, we're here to help. We have categorized all of our sauces by pepper type and heat level. That's  a great place to start.
